Key Ingredients Opens on Guam

Check out the opening activities for Key Ingredients in Hagatna, Guam. I had an exciting visit to Guam at the end of July. We had a great installation workshop and a grand opening that attracted scores of visitors. If you're on island, you've got to check out the exhibition and the amazing local exhibition assembled at the Agana Shopping Center.

Thanks to the Guam Humanities Council for all of their hard work to bring Key Ingredients to Guam and for making it such a fun trip for me.

Journey Stories Video from Lindsborg, KS!

Many thanks to Dan Carey-Whalen of the Kansas Humanities Council for documenting Lindsborg's experience with the Journey Stories exhibit! Scenes from an Installation Workshop, Mississippi-Style

We are sending a big thank you out to Janet Schriver with the Copiah County Department of Cultural Affairs in Hazlehurst, Mississippi for this great video of MoMS' own Carol Harsh conducting the Journey Stories installation workshop in Clinton, Mississippi. Janet and her fellow local committee members will host Journey Stories at Hazlehurst's Depot Museum starting on December 12. Janet's video is beautifully edited and captures the spirit of these workshops where each host community gathers to learn how to assemble and care for the exhibition, and gets a chance to interact with the physical exhibition for the first time.

We are always impressed by the creativity and enthusiasm of our local hosts like Janet! Keep up the good work.

Scenes from an Installation Workshop

Our new exhibition Journey Stories opened in three states -- Illinois, Mississippi, and North Dakota -- over the weekend. I spent the day last Wednesday with a great crew from each of the Illinois host sites assembling the exhibition at a workshop at the Sycamore History Museum. I couldn't resist taking a few snippets of video from the installation. Enjoy!

On Saturday, more than 200 people attended the grand re-opening of the Sycamore History Museum at its new home on the Engh Farm. The museum staff and volunteers accomplished an incredible amount of work in just a few short months. We're really excited that Journey Stories is the first exhibition hosted at the restored farm.

Greetings from Idaho's beautiful Silver Valley where the host communities for the Idaho Humanities Council's tour of Between Fences have gathered for their installation workshop. MoMS Welcomes Coordinators and Scholars in Annapolis, Maryland

MoMS welcomed state coordinators and scholars from 18 states to three information-filled days of orientation and planning meetings for New Harmonies and Journey Stories in Annapolis, Maryland. It was a great meeting -- full of good discussions, creative ideas and a splendid presentation of best practices for MoMS tours all over the country. We've added a few images from the meeting to the photo album in the right column. Enjoy!

Alabama Welcomes Between Fences Coordinators

In beautiful Birmingham, Alabama, coordinators and scholars from the six 2008 and 2009 host states for Between Fences met to learn more about the exhibition and to report on planning for their respective tours. Each state has wonderful plans for Between Fences. Museum on Main Street's great friends at the Alabama Humanities Foundation gave the group a tremendous welcome. The group was greeted with a fantastic reception while visiting the exhibition in West Blocton. Participants were flattered to be welcomed guests at the Birmingham Kiwanis Club's July luncheon. And, the group took time to take in the beautiful views of Birmingham from the top of Red Mountain in the city's Vulcan Park.

Coordinators from Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, South Dakota enjoy Vulcan Park with friends from the Alabama Humanities Foundation.
